THE ENVIRONMENT, ENERGY AND THE SMART METER
A MSc Digital Anthropology Research Project
THE SMART METER
In 2009, the UK government set the ambition to install a smart energy meter in every home. This technology records and communicates information about residential energy consumption to energy consumers, suppliers and others. Conducting research with various key stakeholders involved in the smart meter rollout informed how they work, why people install them and how they are used.

About the project
As part of University College London's MSc in Digital Anthropology, students conducted ethnographic research on people's experience of living in London, specifically exploring the relationship between humans and technology. My research focused on understanding how people think about the environment, energy and the smart meter.
